Client Case Study: From Scripted Delivery to Real Audience Connection

Client: Brett King, Director Industry Transformation, Procore
Program: Positive Presenting Program

The Challenge: Confident on Stage, Disconnected from the Audience

When Brett and I met, we discussed his goals and something different from the norm emerged. As a senior leader, Brett was actually already confident on stage. The problem wasn’t nerves, as it is for many of my clients; it was establishing a real connection with his audience.

In everyday one-to-one conversations, Brett could naturally engage and build rapport. But when it came to presenting, his tendency was to over‑prepare. He would script everything, try to memorise it, and then rely on that script when he stepped on stage.

The result? He went on autopilot. He lost his sense of presence and, most importantly, his authenticity disappeared. He wanted to present with the same ease, warmth, and connection he experienced in normal conversations—but didn’t know how to bridge that gap.

The Approach:  Learn how to not just ‘perform’ but really connect

Brett joined my Positive Presenting Program with one clear goal: to become a better, more authentic presenter who could truly connect with his audience.

Over the course of the program, he experienced three key shifts:

Presence over performance
Brett realised that great presenting isn’t about delivering perfectly rehearsed lines, but about being fully present in the moment and engaging with the audience as if having a genuine conversation.

“Great presenting isn’t about delivering perfectly rehearsed lines. It’s about being fully present in the moment and engaging with the audience as if you’re having a genuine conversation with them.”

Emotional awareness as the driver of real connection
The Positive Intelligence component of the program was a “game changer” for Brett. By better understanding his own emotions and mental wellbeing, he unlocked a deeper, more grounded way of showing up—not just at work, but at home as well.

“The Positive Intelligence element of the program… had a profound impact on me, not just in my professional career, but personally as well in my home life.”

Structure that creates freedom
Instead of relying on a word‑for‑word script, Brett learned how to build a clear narrative: a strong hook, a compelling story and memorable takeaways for the audience. This simple, practical structure gave him the confidence to be more natural and authentic.

“Rather than relying on a word-for-word script, the program taught me how to build a clear narrative, a strong hook, a compelling story and some memorable takeaways… that structure gives you the confidence to be natural and authentic.”

He also benefited from highly practical guidance on content and structure, including:

  • Easy‑to‑apply ideas that changed how he planned presentations.

  • A new sense of hope—and even excitement—around preparing for and delivering talks.

  • A clear, usable breakdown of storytelling into practical parts: story arc, language choice and rhetorical devices, to make stories more human, emotional and vivid.

The Results: A Practical, Human‑Centred Approach to Storytelling

Brett’s experience went far beyond “better slides” or “tighter scripts.” He learned to:

  • Show up as his authentic self on stage.

  • Connect more deeply with his audience through presence and emotional awareness.

  • Use structure not as a constraint, but as a foundation for freedom and authenticity.

  • Enjoy the experience of presenting, rather than simply getting through it.

“This course doesn’t just help you present better. It helps you show up as your authentic self, connect more deeply with the audience and, genuinely for me, this is the thing that had the biggest impact—being able to enjoy that experience of presenting too.”

Brett now thinks about presentations in an entirely different way—from something to endure, to an opportunity to connect.

“If you’re looking to move beyond simply delivering presentations and want to truly connect with your people… I’d highly recommend the Positive Presenting Program. Andrea, hats off to you… the way you mix the elements and the leadership and the guidance you give throughout, it’s second to none. I couldn’t recommend this program more.”
